Beschreibung
Die strauchig *Euphorbia stenoclada var. stenoclada* stammt ursprünglich aus SW und S Madagaskar und hat sich in meinem Hamburger Gewächshaus als dankbare Pflegerin erwiesen.
Wuchsform & Merkmale
Die Art entwickelt einen strauchigen Wuchs und erreicht in Kultur etwa 30-100 cm. Die Oberfläche zeigt das typische Erscheinungsbild der sukkulenten Euphorbien mit ihrer wasserspeichernden Struktur.
Pflege
In der Kultivierung erweist sich *E. stenoclada var. stenoclada* als anspruchsvoll.
Standort & Licht
Ein heller bis vollsonniger Standort ist ideal. In meinem Gewächshaus steht diese Art an einem Südfenster, wobei sie die direkte Mittagssonne im Hochsommer durch leichte Schattierung geschützt wird.
Gießen
Wie alle sukkulenten Euphorbien benötigt auch *E. stenoclada var. stenoclada* eine durchdachte Wassergabe. Während der Wachstumszeit von Frühling bis Herbst gieße ich mäßig, sobald das Substrat vollständig abgetrocknet ist. Im Winter halte ich die Pflanze fast trocken.
Substrat & Umtopfen
Ein gut drainierendes Substrat ist essentiell. Ich verwende eine Mischung aus mineralischem Kakteensubstrat und Bims im Verhältnis 2:1. Umgetopft wird alle 2-3 Jahre im Frühjahr.
Temperatur
Die Überwinterungstemperatur sollte nicht unter 10°C fallen. Optimal sind 12-15°C bei trockener Haltung.
Vermehrung
Die Vermehrung erfolgt durch Samen oder, wo möglich, durch Stecklinge. Bei der Stecklingsvermehrung lasse ich die Schnittstelle mindestens eine Woche abtrocknen, bevor ich in trockenes Substrat setze.
Besonderheiten
Wie alle Euphorbien enthält auch *E. stenoclada var. stenoclada* einen giftigen Milchsaft. Bei Pflegearbeiten empfehle ich das Tragen von Handschuhen. Kontakt mit Augen und Schleimhäuten ist unbedingt zu vermeiden.

The shrubby *Euphorbia stenoclada var. stenoclada* originally comes from Africa and has proven to be a rewarding plant to cultivate in my Hamburg greenhouse.
Growth Form & Characteristics
The species develops a shrubby growth habit and reaches approximately 30-100 cm in cultivation. The surface shows the typical appearance of succulent Euphorbias with their water-storing structure.
Care
In cultivation, *E. stenoclada var. stenoclada* proves to be challenging.
Location & Light
A bright to full sun location is ideal. In my greenhouse, this species stands at a south-facing window, where it is protected from direct midday sun in high summer by light shading.
Watering
Like all succulent Euphorbias, *E. stenoclada var. stenoclada* requires thoughtful watering. During the growing season from spring to autumn, I water moderately once the substrate has completely dried out. In winter, I keep the plant almost dry.
Substrate & Repotting
A well-draining substrate is essential. I use a mixture of mineral cactus substrate and pumice in a 2:1 ratio. Repotting is done every 2-3 years in spring.
Temperature
The overwintering temperature should not fall below 10°C (50°F). Optimal conditions are 12-15°C (54-59°F) with dry keeping.
Propagation
Propagation is done by seeds or, where possible, by cuttings. When propagating by cuttings, I let the cut surface dry for at least a week before placing in dry substrate.
Special Notes
Like all Euphorbias, *E. stenoclada var. stenoclada* contains toxic latex sap. I recommend wearing gloves during care work. Contact with eyes and mucous membranes must be avoided.
